da Vinci Firmware Downgrade

This method is done on a Da Vinci Jnr 1.0,  Other models may be similar but you will have to download the very large firmware files found in method 2 way down the page. That being said, if you choose to do this, it is totally up to you and if you break your printer in the process of doing this, I accept no liability or responsibility.

Method 1

The hard way, but works most of the time.

Step 1

Download these files to your desktop, and unzip.

It will look like this when you open it.

Now install one of the bossa program that suits your pc.

Step 2

Now you must make sure that you disconnect the wire ribbon from the extruder to avoid problems.

You remove by pressing the tabs on either side of the ribbon plug, and gently pulling it out.

Step 3

Remove the motherboard cover on the bottom of the 3d printer.

Step 4

There are 2 types of boards,

Make sure your printer is off,

You will need to connect the jumper pins together, with a wire or something, be careful not to touch any other solder points or connections,

I used a sharp-pointed tweezer,

While the jumper is connected turn the printer on for about 10 seconds, then turn it off.

Remove your jumper connection.

Step 5

Plug the printer USB cable to your PC, and power on your printer.

Open your device manager on your PC and check the COM Port of your 3d printer

You can now see the BOSSA Program Port.

And your da Vinci LCD will look like this,

Step 6

Now open the XYZ_Firmware_Converter.exe file from da vinci jnr firmware downgrade hard way files

Looks like this

Now press the “Open File” button and select the file (dv1J00A000+2.4.4_Atmel_dump.bin)

Before you press the “Save Atmel Dump” you must put your printers serial number in the “Printer Serial Number” block. It’s the big long number at the bottom. Found on the back of your printer.

Now Press “Save Atmel Dump” button.

Now press “Yes”

Step 7

Now we are going to open the BOSSA program.

Now press the “Browse” button and select the file called (dv1J00A000+2.4.4_Atmel_dump.bin)

Now select the Serial Port of your printer “COM ?”

Make sure you check the boxes as in the image. “Erase all” and “Boot to flash”

Now press the “Write” button

Now click the “OK” button.

Wait 2 minutes and then turn off your Printer.

Now plug the ribbon back into your extruder.

Now when you turn on your printer, your LCD menu will be in German or Dutch, so here are the menu instructions to put it back to English.

Follow the arrows and press OK.

Home screen 1

Screen 2

Now scroll up to English, press OK.

Done!!

Method 2

The easy way does not always work. But this can be used once after method 1.

This method is done on a Da Vinci Jnr 1.0,  That being said, if you choose to do this, it is totally up to you and if you break your printer in the process of doing this, don’t come crying to me. It’s your choice.

Download XYZ_Firmware_Flasher_v1.30

Download XYZ Firmwares It’s a big file (2.2G) to download so be patient. This downloads all firmware for most da Vinci machines.

You will need to unzip these files into a new folder on your PC desktop, for later. Call the file “xyzupdater”

Plug your printer USB into your PC

Power on your 3d printer

Check on your printer LCD Menu for the firmware version you have installed.

On your printer menu,

Scroll down to info press “ok”

Scroll down to system version and press “ok”

Make a note of the firmware version.

Open your device manager on your PC and check the COM Port of your 3d printer

Now that you know the com port number of you printer open the XYZ Firmware Flasher.exe program in the folder “xyzupdater”

Now click the port selector for your com port, it might do it automatically.

Now click the Open file Button (select the folder “xyzupdater” and look for model of 3d printer)

Open the folder that matches your 3d printer model

Now select the firmware .bin file that has is a previous version of firmware to the one on your machine.

You can see in the image the version highlighted in yellow is the current version of the firmware

And highlighted in blue will be the firmware version you selected

Now just press the Downgrade Firmware button.

Now your LCD menu will be in German, so here are the menu instructions to put it back to English.

Follow the arrows and press OK.
